Why we opened a cafe

Hello, welcome to Chapters website and our blog.

What makes a mother, grandmother, and wife start her hospitality career at 57 years old? I am still trying to figure that out.

I am Kerri, and my husband Dennis and I are the owners of Chapters Book Shop, Cafe, and Wine Bar.

This blog will be a space to share stories about our little Karalee-based shop, as well as three of my favourite passions - books, coffee, and wine.

The inspiration for opening Chapters is simple. I wanted to do something that involved my passions.

Books have a wonderful ability to transport you to a different place, or a different world, different time, or to even be a different person - all while flipping a page from the comfort of your couch, your bed, or a hammock.

Being able to read a good book while drinking a creamy cappuccino or a complex Barossa shiraz only makes it better.

Chapters Book Shop, Cafe and Wine Bar is a place borne out of my passions and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Karalee is home after moving to the region from north Queensland (go Cowboys!) nearly 10 years ago.

I am not only passionate about books, coffee, and wine but also passionate about showcasing some of our amazing local talents.

Come into Chapters and you can find books from local authors as well as produce from South-East-Queensland-based farmers and growers.

We are independently owned and pride ourselves on being part of the community.

I love being able to see familiar faces come in to have a chat or to have breakfast, enjoy lunch, or take a break from cooking and join us for dinner.

Chapters Book Shop, Cafe and Wine Bar is a passion project for me and I hope it has become a valuable part of the community I call home, Karalee.

Thank you for reading and I hope to see you in-store soon.

I love coming there for an early morning coffee, a quick drop off on my Sunday cruise in the mustang, a girls day out with my daughter for a book and a sneaky pancakes or ice cream or a large family booking with my family of 7 (Plus a few extras each time)

We moved here in April 2020.. right in the middle of COVID-19 lockdown (which devastate us because we had to wait for your coffee or food) and had previously spent about a year searching suburbs and realestate in hope of finding our family home.

I wanted a bit of land, friendly faces and a close good (or amazing!) coffee shop. When I discovered your cafe in lat…

So do we get a hammock soon? Love coming to Chapters several times a week, takeaway coffees, food dates and coffee dates, the sneaky cocktails are always good too! Thanks for opening your passion project up in our community. Marika
